When the owners of The White Rabbit Speakeasy began transforming a historic downtown space into an immersive cocktail lounge and event venue, they envisioned a place that felt equal parts mysterious, whimsical, and refined — a modern reimagining of Alice in Wonderland.

That’s where Artifactual co-founder, muralist, designer, and photographer Karmen Johnson stepped in. Karmen brought the brand to life from concept to completion — designing The White Rabbit’s logo, a hypnotic emblem featuring the story’s iconic character, and painting a custom mural that serves as a portal into the speakeasy experience. The mural’s hand-painted details — from towering trees and checkerboard paths to golden stars and toadstools — guide guests “Down the Rabbit Hole.”

Inside, Karmen also captured the venue’s moody, eclectic interiors through brand photography, showcasing its layered lighting, rich textures, and dreamlike atmosphere that mirror the wonder of the story itself.

Opened in 2023, The White Rabbit Speakeasy has quickly become a hidden gem in Versailles, Indiana — where artistry, atmosphere, and craft cocktails come together to offer guests a true escape from the ordinary.
